Once again Warwickshire proudly put out a strong team to take on Nottinghamshire. Nottinghamshire came into the match having recorded a 15-3 win over Shropshire and Herefordshire in their last match, so were understandably buoyant.
With the upcoming County Finals, opportunities were taken to play some potential pairings. On this point, Warwickshire Seniors welcomed First Team Captain Karl Smith to The Team having recently celebrated a significant Birthday. Karl making his debut was paired with Ken Spencer.
Instead of going into details, I can simply sum up the morning Greensomes in saying, Warwickshire had a clean sweep.
Morning Greensomes Result:
Warwickshire Won 6 matches and Lost 0.
Warwickshire 6 points – Nottinghamshire 0 points.
The afternoon followed a similar pattern to the morning session. Notable points were, Karl and Ken recorded a second win for the day. Dave Mason and Dylan Ward recorded a massive 8-7 victory over their competition. This rounds off an impressive first season as a Senior County Player for Dylan. There were further wins for Soen / Neale and Gardner / Barker. In the final match there was a long and hard fought match involving Mark Reynolds and Pete Clarke which ended all square.
Afternoon Fourball Result:
Warwickshire Won 4 matches, Halved 1 and Lost 1. Warwickshire 9 points – Nottinghamshire 3 points.
The overall result therefore was a Warwickshire win 15 points to 3 points.
My thanks to Nuneaton Golf Club for giving us such a great test of golf, together with warm hospitality.
We move on now to The Midland League Play Off at Thonock Park on the 7th September 2022. Our opponents will be Leicestershire and Rutland. After this, our thoughts will turn to The England County Finals at Rothley Park first week in October.
