Girls Stableford Series at Stonebridge
A small field but some excellent scores for the 2nd event in the Girls Stableford Series!
The 2nd of the Warwickshire Girls Stableford Series was played on Sunday at Stonebridge Golf Club. It was a bright, warm day and although the field was smaller than we would have liked, the girls were eager to play the course and out to perform well.
And they did, with an excellent win for Lilli Nicolls (Coventry GC) in the 18 hole competition with a very good score of 37 points. Runner up with 34 points was Grace Walkden (Stonebridge GC) with Maisie Halstead and Erin Hamilton chasing, with 33 points.
Elsie Glover (Kenilworth GC) won the 9 hole competition for 36.4 - 54.0 handicaps and choosing to play 9 holes but without a WHS handicap yet, Erin Thompson (Copt Heath GC) achieved a fantastic 26 points! This was the final round required to give her a handicap and we were delighted for her!
In the Futures event for those without handicaps, playing 6 holes, Molly Ford (Coventry GC) achieved a brilliant 21 points beating Isabella Ryley with 17 points in her first year playing in a Warwickshire competition. Great scores from both these girls.
Molly was presented with the "˜Warwickshire Bear' brooch for playing in her first Stableford.
Our grateful thanks go to Marion Parsons, Stonebridge Lady Captain along with Liz Hedley and Pam Hadley who walked round with the 18 hole girls, commenting how much they enjoyed the experience and how inspiring all those girls were.
Many thanks also go to Bobbi Waugh, Warwickshire President, who arrived to support and have a relaxing day in the sun, but then took on the role of starter and accompanied the last group for 6 holes!
The final Stableford in the Series is being held at Edgbaston GC on Sunday 18 September which will decide the series winner. It is wide open for anyone to win at the moment!
