Warwickshire Men's 1st Team v 2nd Team at Handsworth Golf Club
With a new "˜Covid free' (hopefully) year ahead the Warwickshire Men's 1st Team played a talented 2ndTeam to begin the 2022 County League season.
The weather was dry, but a very cold, stiff breeze made for testing conditions alongside the usual winter golf greens, but everyone seemed really upbeat meeting up for this hotly contested match. Lots of quality shots were made and a few "˜matchplay' moments made for interesting viewing.
The 1st team consisted of:
Mike Pell, John Paul Banbury, Seb Cave, Warren Bladon, Rob Bardsley, Tom Ibbertson, Ian Smith, Luke Allen, Stuart Bloxham, Gareth Jenkins, Dan Bardsley, Rhys Lawrence, Steve Creed and Gary Skipp.
The 2nd Team consisted of:
Chris Laird, Nev Gardner, Paul Walker, Channon James, Alex Smith, Ollie Clark, Rob Holland, Phil Hoye, Rhys Wallace, Richard Bush, Lewis Watson, Will Kilbey, Niall Collins & Charlie Lamb
Handsworth kindly agreed to host this fixture and provided 18 holes with only two temporary greens, so pretty decent considering the recent deluge of rain all the Midland courses have recently suffered.

I would like to thank all the players for attending the match, The President and wife (Deb) for braving the very chilly conditions, Pete Clarke for his usual support and assistance and all involved at Handsworth Golf Club to enable the fixture to go ahead. Thanks to the Catering and Bar Staff for providing the much-needed food and drink after play.
My thanks also go Chris Staite (2nd Team Captain) for providing class opposition for this fixture, best of luck for the year Chris, bring home that 2nd team league title!!
