COLLINS CAPTURES THE CUP

The Warwickshire Boys Matchplay Championship was played at Coventry Golf Club.

Unfortunately, one of the qualifiers had to withdraw with covid related issues at the last minute meaning top seed Niall Collins (Robin Hood) received a bye into the next round. Joining him there was Chanon James (Hearsall) after beating Luke Packham (Robin Hood) 5&4 in the first round.

In the semi final Niall managed to hold his nerve over Chanon with winning the last hole and recording a 2 up victory.

In the other half of the draw home player Charlie Faulkner beat Alfie Mitchell (Nuneaton) 6&5 with Eric Young (Maxstoke Park) recording a narrow victory over Findlay Tanner (Coventry) by 1 hole.

This semi final between Charlie and Eric lasted all the way until the 16th green where Eric managed to record a 3&2 win.

The final for this event is a 36 hole match where Niall Collins played against Eric Young, the match was great to watch. With both players having their moments with huge drives, shaped shots round trees and putts holed. The match remained tight well into the second round, but mid round Niall found an impressive extra gear and converted a number of birdies to eventually overcome Eric 5&4.

Congratulations Niall on your win and very well played Eric to get to that position. Many thanks to Coventry Golf Club for hosting us.
