MAXSTOKE PARK LADIES WIN PAIRS BETTERBALL

The Inter Club Pairs competition was held at Copt Heath Golf Club on Monday 14th October.  Heavy rain had fallen over the previous days and it was touch and go as to whether the event would take place, but with alot of hard work by the Greens staff, the course was in play.  Better Ball Stableford was the format and 17 Pairs from clubs  within Warwickshire had entered the 2019 competition.

Earlier players had at least some dry  weather but for the last 2 hours of play it poured with the latter ladies coming in looking like drowned rats.  Indeed it was a good job that they finished when they did as the 18th and I am sure many others were under water soon after play had finished.  The rain did not dampen their enthusiasm though and there were some excellent scores posted. Coming in winners with an excellent score of 40 points were the pairing from Maxstoke Park - Georgina KENNETT and Shirley HIGGINS, with Rahela GORDON and Jennie RATTLIDGE from Harborne, Runners Up with 38 points (both winners from the earlier starters!!)

Newly appointed Lady Captain of Copt Heath, Sue WESTALL gave a belated welcome to the Warwickshire County Ladies Committee and the players stating that she hoped, in spite of the rain they had all enjoyed their time at Copt Heath, mentioning how it had been touch and go in the morning to get the course ready.

Presenting the prizes today was County Captain, Julia BURTON who thanked Sue and everyone from Copt Heath who had helped out and particularly the Club for hosting this event.  She then presented the Prize Vouchers to 1st and 2nd placed players.

This event was introduced in 2017 in an attempt to encourage more Club golfers who may never have played in a County competition, to enter and hopefully realise that golf in the County is for everyone, not just the elite golfers.  The pairings must have included one player from Silver Division and one from Bronze and judging from the banter in the clubhouse after play, everyone had enjoyed the occasion.  Hopefully more Clubs will send representatives in 2020.
