The two Semi Finals took place on Monday 20 August and the weather was kind at both venues where the sun shone through for most of the day following the extreme winds and rain of the previous two days. The match played at Maxstoke GC was between Leamington & County Ladies and Nuneaton Ladies and at Kenilworth GC between Oakridge Ladies and Rugby Ladies, these teams being the winners of the four divisions of the County Inter Club League, where matches had been played throughout the summer. There were 7 players in each team and both Kenilworth and Maxstoke courses were in excellent condition.
Semi Final 1 - Leamington & County versus Nuneaton
Deb Nicholls (10) played against Rachel Rusted (5) with Deb winning 2 and 1
Sarah Bush (16) played against Marsha Button (11) with Marsha winning 3 and 2
Tina Bruder (17) played against Linda Pope (13) with Linda winning 3 and 2
Ali McLean (18) played against Sharon Bolus (16) with Sharon winning 7 and 6
Liz Murdoch (19) played against Sandra Melling (19) with Sandra winning 1 up
Diana Phillips (20) played against Irene Hancox (20) with Irene winning 1 up
Fiona Salmon (23) played against Janet Burgoyne (22) with the match Halved
Thus Nuneaton were the winners of this first Semi Final 5 1/2 to 1 1/2. Sharon had a fine win which was great as it was her birthday!! She commented at the end that all matches had been played in a competitive sprit and had been fun. Some of the other matches were really close and could have gone either way but in the end it was perhaps the fact that putts just dropped in for some and not others.
Semi Final 2 - Oakridge versus Rugby
Holly Elliott (8) played against Judith Peglar (8) with Holly winning 5 and 3
Jayne Hales (16) played against Sue Jones (9) with Jayne winning 1 up
Lynn Seward (24) played against Phoebe Anderson (12) with Phoebe winning 2 up
Andrea Mace (24) played against Sandra Brazier (13) with Sandra winning 3 and 2
Sue Wilkins (26) played against Deb Harrad (13) with Deb winning 5 and 3
Sue Kosniowski (27) played against Karen Cowell (17) with Karen winning 3 and 2
Pat Steptoe (29) played against Linda Long (23) with the match Halved
Thus the winners of the second Semi Final were Rugby by 4 1/2 to 2 1/2. After a slow start quickly going 2 down, the Rugby players then won the next four games and with a half in the final game, they came out the winners even though they were giving quite a few shots in most of the games. How good to see that two of Warwickshire Junior Girls were playing - one in each team - Holly and Phoebe, and guess what they both won!
