A dry and partially sunny day saw the Warwickshire Vets take on the Oxfordshire Seniors in the first inter county match of the season. The Stratford upon Avon course was in excellent condition and provided a good test for all players. Greens were quick and true, the rough was tough.
The Warwickshire team were giving the majority of shots and good wins were recorded by Anne Parry and Sheelagh Murray, Jane Betts and Marie Swindells, Liz Moverley and Julie Ward and Marsha Button and Janet Lees.
The other matches were much tighter and pairs had to dig deep with real determination in order to grind out results. Ultimately their efforts were rewarded with a fabulous team win of 7 1/2 to 1/2. My thanks go to Stratford GC for their wonderful hospitality (especially the food!) and to all ladies for playing so well. Marjorie Scott (Maxstoke Park) made her debut for the Vets and we hope this is the first of many.
