WCLGA Seniors V Northamptonshire Vets.

At.   :   The Warwickshire.   Earls Course.

On.   :   Monday 8th July 2024.

Handicap range 0-18.

Format: 4 Ball better ball Scratch Match.

Arrived at The Warwickshire to find a very busy and chaotic Clubhouse. Directed originally to the wrong room to find no tea or coffee and ladies not knowing where to go. Not good to confuse us Seniors so early in the morning!  The flag was hoisted and the banner out and we were ready to go following a Mens competition.

Because this was friendly match I tried to mix the partnerships with a lower handicapper with a mid range one early in the field to try and get some wins on the board. We did  this with Claire Howells and her partner Carolyn Coxon (obviously on form as she went on to win the Seniors Championship with best net the following day)  winning with an impressive 5 & 4.  And Deb Reynolds (Another winner at the Championship) and Gill Thorpe winning 2 up.

Then we dried up a bit!  Carol O’Hare and myself were looking good mid point in our game going 4 up at one stage only to find ourselves 1 up going down the 18th when the pressure got to us and we had to surrender to a half!  That was the last of the points.

The final score was 2 1/2 to 5 1/2 to Northamptonshire.

The Earls Course was really enjoyable with some very interesting holes through the trees on the back 9.  Not having played it for some years it was a pleasant surprise although still a few long walks between tees.

We welcomed two new players to the team Katherine Reynolds from Robin Hood and Maggie Smith from `Kenilworth.

Big thank you to our President Sue Timberlake for coming along to support us!
