WLCGA Seniors v Oxfordshire at Stratford Oaks
Friday 28th June 2024
Format : 4 Ball better ball with shots.
Another dry but at times windy day at Stratford Oaks, especially for those who went out early.
Oxfordshire presented their team with handicap ranges of 11 -32 whereas our handicap range was 7-20. I think I’m painting the picture………..!
The first pairing meant Carol O’Hare and Tina Lewis were having to give 15 and 9 shots to the opposition which was just too big a hurdle to jump as was our match with Lynn Seward with 16 & 7 shots. Difficult when playing on a course when the ball was running and your opposition are reaching the greens near to regulation.
Christine Kennedy & Maggie Taylor did really well claiming a half after giving 20 & 14 shots.
Warwickshire did get 3 very good wins. Gill Somerfield and Di Wood overcoming 12 and 9 shots with a 5 and 4 win. Along with Karen Simpson and Gill Thorpe winning 2 and 1 and Jane Betts and Bev Coleman winning 2 and 1.
With a loss from Angela Danby and Jill Harrison it meant it was all on the last pairing which went to the 18th green - Jane Frith & Sue Butler. On all accounts a very exciting match but sadly they lost.
So final result Warwickshire 3 1/2 to Oxfordshire 4 1/2.
It was a friendly and enjoyable day with a very delicious meal served by Stratford Oaks.
