Staffordshire Seniors v Warwickshire Senior Ladies.

Tri-County Scratch match playing for the Glass Lady Trophy held at South Staffs Golf Club on Thursday 6th June 2024.

The Seniors/Vets always have a very tough and competitive match against Staffordshire and this was to be no different.

South Staffs was looking glorious when we arrived nice and early and greeted by Gareth, South Staffs General manager. He very kindly took the flag and signs off me and said don’t worry I’ll get this put up for you! ……………..well what did I find at 11.30am when I went out to the tee but the flag and sign still in their bags sitting next to the putting green. I’ll say no more!

Staffordshire had got a really strong scratch team out and we were having to play catch up before we started.  Sue Timberlake (Warwickshire County President) and Sue Simmons (Staffordshire County President) starting us all off on the first tee. Many thanks to them both.

Sharon Butler and Sue Westall brought in the first 1/2 point for us followed by Carol O’Hare and Anne Wardle after being 2 down on the 16th and finishing with 2 birdies. Then my partner Judith Peglar and myself came in with a win 4 & 3. Judith played some beautiful steady golf carrying me most the way round. Deb Reynolds and Karen Simpson then came in with a win on the 18th with another birdie.

The overall match result finished 3-5. Not too bad a result. Hopefully next year we’ll get the win.

Supper was delicious which made up for the lack of flag flying and the company and conversation excellent.

Thank you to all the Warwickshire Senior Team members for playing.
