Warwickshire Golf News 2020 - Week 11

Wishaw

Teenager Sam Easterbrook eagled the fourth hole at Wishaw before adding birdies on the seventh, 10th, 13th, 15th and 18th in an excellent round of net 57 in the 17-hole March Saturday Medal.

Although the youngster finished two ahead of Darren Whitehouse in the top category, he didn’t shoot the best net score as Paul Baker grabbed the lower division honours by one from Jason Allen with a net 56.

Whitefields

A magnificent gross level par back nine helped 11-handicapper Gareth Jones lift the Cartlidge Trophy at Whitefields as he finished two points ahead of Richard Gray (34).

The February Stableford needed countback to decide the winner as Adrian Carter edged out Martin Warwick and Charles Bend (all 34 points), while Ian Reid (35) led the way in the Extra Stableford by one from three players.

Pype Hayes

Net 64 was the leading score in the February Running Medal and the February Running Shaggies Medal as David Greenhill and Richard Reeves took the respective plaudits.

Greenhill birdied the par five holes at the start and towards the end of his round to beat Steve Matthias by a couple of strokes, while Reeves enjoyed a more convincing victory as Denis Neenan trailed in five shots behind.

Leamington and County

Gillian Thorpe, Anne Clark and Elizabeth Scott compiled the best score of 41 points in Leamington and County’s Ladies 11-hole Three Ball Alliance as they finished two ahead of Judith Coote, Elizabeth Murdoch and Philippa Wilson.

The Ladies Five-hole Three Ball Alliance went to the trio of Sheila Metcalfe, Liz Jones and Eira Hunt (10 points) by one from Pam Furnivall, Kathryn Chapman and Veronica Garratt.

Bramcote Waters

Pete Mihailovic’s form on the par three holes proved decisive in the March Medal at Bramcote Water as the high-handicapper parred half the six short holes on his way to a wining total of 37 points.

Jason Keene’s strong finish enabled him to claim second place by a single point from Mick Preedy and Simon Cheesmore (both 35).

North Warwickshire

Four gross birdies were on Chris Brown’s winning scorecard in the March Stableford as the four-handicapper bagged 41 points to finish two clear of his nearest two challengers.

Windmill Village

Two gross birdies in the closing four holes capped a fine performance from Garry Monger in the Saturday Winter Stableford at Windmill Village as the 13-handicapper shot a super tally of 44 points. John Nicholls (41) and Rob Brassington (40) claimed the other podium places.

Hatchford Brook

Craig Watts one-putted the last three greens in Hatchford Brook’s Nine-hole March Stableford to secure top spot by one point from John Burns (21). Jacen Copley finished third on 19.

Welcombe

Dave French and Jeremy Harvey (42 points), James Canning and James Wootton (41) and Andy Rigg and Kevin Shearsby (40) carded the leading three scores in the fifth round of the Winter Pairs event at Welcombe.
