Warwickshire Golf News 2020 - Week 4

Sutton Coldfield

Kenilworth’s Arianna Virik was amongst the winners in the Robert Rock Junior Golf Tour competition at Sutton Coldfield GC as she clinched top prize in the under-18 girls category.

In the first of several RRJGT events taking place across the East Midlands in 2020, including a tournament at West Midlands GC in early April, boys and girls took advantage of the dry, if cold, conditions to play over nine or 18 holes.

Boldmere

Anthony Wilkins had nothing worse than a five on his scorecard in the January Medal at Boldmere as the 12-handicapper shot a brilliant winning round of net 59. Adrian Shortall was his closest rival on 64.

The Welcombe

Jake Day fired a magnificent back nine in the January Stableford at The Welcombe as the five-handicapper took the plaudits with an overall tally of 39 points.

After picking up a shot on the fifth hole, he seized control with further birdies on the 10th, 11th, 15th and 18th holes as he finished one point ahead of David Sheppard, Scott Williams and James Wootton.

Whitefields

Michael Tyler found some consistency over the closing stretch at Whitefields in the Seniors November Stableford as he clinched top spot on 36 points.

The 15-handicapper carded gross pars on the ninth, 10th, 11th, 15th and 17th holes in addition to a birdie on the 12th to finish two clear of David Elliott, Stephen Postlethwaite and Kevin Tomalin.

Windmill Village

Paul Rushton needed countback to get the better of John Nicholls in the latest Windmill Village Winter Stableford after both players came in with the leading score of 38 points.
