Beryl Turner

It is with great sadness to learn of the passing of Beryl Turner on 26th December 2019, following a short illness and tragically within a few weeks of losing her husband Geoff; both were members of Ladbrook Park Golf Club.  Our thoughts and prayers are therefore extended to her family and friends at this very difficult and sad time.

Beryl was an extremely keen competitor in the early years of her golfing career in WLCGA events, winning many county and regional trophies both as an individual and team member for Ladbrook Park.  She was Captain of Ladbrook twice and elected to the county committee in 1977.  For the next twenty years she served in various capacities for Warwickshire Ladies, being junior organiser, second team captain and County Captain in 1986, when the county team reached the sub-division final for the first time in 24 years.  She was also the county representative on the Midlands committee of ELGA and subsequently served as Midlands treasurer for five years and then was elected as Chairman of the Midlands division.

In 1996 Beryl became President of WLCGA for three years and the successful Inter-County Ladies Scratch League for Midlands club was also her brainchild which she introduced to encourage competitive match-play off scratch between the Midlands counties.

Beryl’s support, dedication and passion for golf in Warwickshire has been continuous and outstanding and she will be hugely missed by everyone who had the privilege and pleasure to meet her either on or off the golf course.

Beryl and Geoff were also members of Blackwell Golf Club.

The funeral is to be held on Thursday 16th January at Redditch Crematorium at 2.45pm, followed by a reception at Ladbrook Park Golf Club.
