Great show by Laurence at Coventry Finham

This year's Dick Squires Trophy was played at Coventry Finham on Friday 27th October 2017. The weather was particularly kind to us on the day with warm sunshine and very little wind to speak of. The course as always was presented in excellent condition. The main prize for the Dick Squires Trophy was played as a gross stableford competition with players having no handicap shots to help them. The winning score of 34 points was returned by Laurence Greatley of Sutton Coldfield Golf Club. Completing the top three and also from Sutton Coldfield Golf Club, in second place Rob Llewellyn with 33 points and just one fewer, Gordon Allen coming third. Gordon just pipping Andrew Carman from the host club with a better back nine score. The nett competition was won by Rob Soen of Walmley Golf Club with 35 points. Rob also triumphed with a better back nine score, to beat Coventry Finham Vice Captain Tim Barnby.

I would like to thank Coventry Finham for looking after us all so royally on the day, from the initial greeting by Amber in the Professional Shop, to Secretary Kay Forrest and the catering department and all members of the green staff for presenting everyone with the course to play in such very fine condition. My thanks also to Club President Peter Holt for his help in the run up to the day and for ensuring the weather was kind !! To my wife Deborah for checking the cards, and to Club Captain Russ Evans and Warwickshire Golf Union President Bob Harrison for attending the dinner and prize giving.
Some 30 players competed and my thanks to them for their participation.

Congratulations and well played again to Laurence for his well deserved win and to the other winners on the day.

Mark Reynolds

Senior Captain
