MAX MARTIN IS CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS
This annual event, involving competitors who have qualified by winning their Club Championship, was generously hosted by the Marriott Forest of Arden Hotel and Country Club - and played on the premier Donald Steel designed Arden Championship course.
The Arden course, having hosted the European Senior Masters Championship only 3 days earlier, was in first class condition with greens running fast and true and provided an excellent challenge to all competitors.
Although after 13 holes David Atkins (Club Champion from The Belfry) - was 3 under gross and his playing companion Maxwell Martin (Club Champion from Harborne) - was 2 under – after a closely contested final 5 holes it was Max who prevailed – returning a final score of 70 – 2 under gross - versus David’s final score of 71.
3rd Place was also strongly contested with 3 players – Robert Copperthwaite (Club Champion from Stratford on Avon), Rhys Lawrence (Club Champion from Coventry Hearsall) and Joe Macilwraith (Club Champion from Olton) – all returning gross 74’s and was narrowly won by Robert Copperthwaite on countback over the last 3 holes.
All excellent scores on a day when the CSS increased by 2 shots to 75.
