A beautiful day and beautiful course welcomed us at Ingestre Golf Club on Friday 7th August for the first of the 2015 Trophy matches, this one against a very experienced Staffordshire team.
For many of the Warwickshire team it was a first time experience. And what an experience! Ingestre was a long, slightly undulating parkland course with sloped greens that defied the human eye, not to mention some of the ‘evil’ pin positions!
We were up against a very strong Staffs side, their top ten being in single figures and 5 of those playing out of Ingestre itself. It was always going to be an uphill struggle. However we weren’t just beaten, we were somewhat annihilated. Few matches were close, the majority finishing before the 16th, such was the enormity of the challenge.
Many congratulations to Gill Thorpe and Carol Bancroft for securing Warwickshire’s only win of the day, 2 / 1.
As a result Staffordshire 1st team have won the trophy for 2015 having previously beaten Worcestershire & Herefordshire; I am not certain what we can ever do to realistically compete against them.
A big Thank you to all my Ladies for playing and despite the result it was a lovely day!
