Warwickshire Golf

The match was lucky to get underway after the deluge of rain over the previous few days but Nuneaton managed to get the course in great shape.  A warm welcome from Nuneaton was extended to both Warks and Leics teams,  and the catering staff looked after us really well during the day.

Morning Session: Claire Howells and Lilly Phelps were the first foursome out, they were 1 up after 5 holes, on 15th and after the perfect drive from Claire and a great approach by Lilly, they were 2 up on 16th and ended up winning the match 3 & 2. Great battle!  Rachel Rusted and Vicky Brewer, went out as the second foursome.  This was Vicky's first match back playing for 1st Team since University. They found themselves 1 down on 5th and although a great approach from Rachel, they stayed 1 down after 5 holes,  then 2 down after 9. They fought very hard but ended up losing 5 & 3. The singles started with Annabel Edmund who was up against another strong opponent and after a long put to win the hole, Annabel found herself 2 down after 5 holes.  She ended up losing 2 & 1.  Emma Morton went out next and was 1 up after 5, following a great chip, she was 2 up after 9 holes and finished winning 2 & 1.  Brilliant result!  Lisa went next, she was all square after 5 holes and ended up winning 3 & 2. Again great result!

Afternoon Session: Claire Howells and Judith Pegler (1st appearance for the team) found themselves 1 down after 5 and 2 down after 9, they were still 2 down after 13.  They fought hard but ended up losing 4 & 2.  Rachel Rusted and Emma Morton were out next. After a great chip onto the 5th green from Emma, they were 3 down after 5 holes but 2 down after 9. On the back nine, the tide turned in their favour and were all square standing on 13th tee. They won 14th and 15th to go 2 up. On 16th, After a shot from the edge of a tree, Rachel put the ball on the green and Emma sunk the put to go 3up and win the match. The singles matches started with Vicky Brewer, she was 1 down after 5, was still 1 down after 9 but ended up losing 5 & 3. Lilly Phelps was out next, she was soon 2 up after 5 holes, 4 up after 10 holes and won 5 & 3 against a very touch opponent. Lastly, Lisa Barton went out and after a great chip, was 1 up after 1 hole, she was still 1 up after 5 holes and ended up winning 3 & 2.  Brilliant result.

The overall result was a win for Warks: 6 vs 4

Fantastic result for everyone involved and looking forward to our next next match on 30th May.
