Warwickshire Golf

The second  team made a return trip to the course where they successfully won the league in 2016 so hopes were high that we could win again. The weather forecast had originally been for much cooler weather with likelihood of rain and storms. This did not materialise. Instead the ladies teed off at 9:30 with the heat already at 28 and the sun beating down. Thought had to be given on each tee shot as to the club to take with the ball running a good 30 to 50 yards further on the hard ground and running out of fairway a constant danger.  Helen and Carol were playing the two youngsters and were giving away a combined 82 years but were holding their own, however the confident putting of the youngsters finally took its toll. Vicky and Jess despite being down at one point got the match back to all square and eventually got the win. Veronique and Hilary coming in with a convincing win. Two good foursomes pairings for the future in the making.

 

After a quick lunch it was back out into the heat and humidity Thank you to Julia for seeing the ladies off in the singles always a boost to have the first team captain cheering you on.  Unfortunately the lack of a substitute proved to be the deciding factor as Warwickshire had to concede one match due to the weather taking its toll. The singles was always  going to be much tougher proposition with W&H fielding a strong team resulting in the first four matches going against Warwickshire. Step up Veronique and Hilary. Veronique loving the hot weather was seen jauntily strolling to the 9th where everyone else looked exhausted from the climb to the 8th green. She eventually triumphed on the 15th to give us our first singles win. Hilary despite suffering more in the heat kept her game together and was able to close out her match on  the 17th.

 

On paper W&H should have won this match by a much bigger margin but Bears never give up. Three of the ladies have also achieved their second team colours as a result of this match. Congratulations go to Veronique, Hilary and Victoria.
