Warwickshire Girls V Worcestershire and Herefordshire League Match 2016

Warwickshire Girls fight hard as Phoebe Machin takes her game to the 18th

In a difficult fixture away at Halesowen the Warwickshire Girls team fought hard for their County despite coming up against very strong opposition with the scratch team players finding themselves pitched against a team where the difference in shots in all games was quite considerable.  The aim of all the Warwickshire Girls was to take their matches as far as they could and to follow the advice of Lauren Beaman (Moor Hall), who stood in as Captain for this match, to play their own game.  The girls followed Lauren’s advice and despite not being able to secure points managed to do just that.

Once again Amelia Machin (Kenilworth handicap 25) managed to take her match to the 16th hole despite playing against Constance Brooks handicap 8. Jessica McGhee (Rugby handicap 27) who played against Lauren Sharpe handicap 10 also took her game to the 16th.  Alyssa Mildenstein (Ladbrook Park) and Megan Gee (Maxstoke) made it to the 15th hole.  It was a sterling effort from all players with Lauren Beaman (handicap 9) and Grace Wilkinson (Coventry Hearsall handicap 15) meeting girls who were on form both with playing handicaps of 4.

Next up were Jodie Wood from Shirley, Phoebe Anderson from Rugby and Georgia Beaman from Moor Hall.  Again the opposition was too strong for our handicap girls and we were unable to secure a point.

The last two matches were played to gain experience.  Both Victoria Beard (Shirley) and Phoebe Machin (Kenilworth) fought hard.  Showing great steel Phoebe managed to secure a half for the team finishing with two 5’s on the final two holes despite playing off a handicap of 50.  Well played Phoebe.

Unfortunately Ellie Leech, Warwickshire Girls Captain, was too poorly to represent her County in this match but she was rooting for the team all the way sending text messages of encouragement from home.

As team manager I could not be more proud of our girls who remained positive throughout displaying a great team spirit.  Well done to you all.
