Warwickshire Champion of Champions 2023
The PGA National course at the Belfry was the venue for the 2023 Warwickshire Champion of Champions. An event where all of the various Club Champions from around the County are invited to compete.
The PGA National course is one of the toughest by rating in Warwickshire and the flag positions were in their most difficult combination. On the plus side for those competing, it was a gloriously sunny day for this time of year.
The course was proving challenging and the format for the day of gross stableford was vindicated as the thick rough caused mayhem for any wayward tee shots.
32 Stableford points were achieved by Dale Marson (Rugby) and Finlay Stokes (Maxstoke Park), both good scores on the day but would fall just outside the prizes.
33 points would be good enough to tie for 2nd place. Harrison Long (Moor Hall) would finish 3rd by virtue of a back nine countback. Harrison playing some fantastic golf, just two double bogeys on the Par 5s hurting him scoring wise. Runner Up spot would go to Stephen Creed (Stratford on Avon), his 33 points contained a few missed putts on the day, which as we all know isn’t the norm for Creedy.
The Warwickshire Champion of Champions for 2023, with a fantastic score of one under par, for 37 points on the day, was Alex Ford from Robin Hood.
Thanks go to The Belfry for hosting this final championship of 2023 on our behalf. The day made special for all our club champions having the opportunity to compete over the PGA course.
Thank you also to our President Mark Reynolds, who as players will know is an ever present starter and supporter at our championship and matches throughout the year. It would not be possible to have the events and matches organised in the way we do without his time and support.
