Under 16s v Shropshire & Herefordshire - Match Report

Warwickshire U16s team vs Shropshire & Herefordshire

Charlie Rowledge   Shirley golf club

Alfie Mitchell          Nuneaton golf club

Jack Hewitson       Copt heath golf club

Joey Williams         Moor hall golf club

Gabriel Westrope   Coventry golf club

Sam Price               Warwickshire golf club

Charlie England     Coventry golf club

Not the ideal start to the day with Callum being sick so unfortunately Warwickshire would be a player down whilst travelling to Church Stetton.  Also a quick diversion was required to pick up a stranded Gabriel Westrope (whose parents car had a puncture).  Feeling glad to eventually arrive, the bacon rolls and coffee was followed by the team talk & team selection.

First out Charlie Rowledge making his debut with Alfie Mitchell.  A tough start to be 3 down through 3, they would never give up but would eventually lose 3&2

Next out was Joey & Jack.  Finally, some better news on the day, a good start 2 up through 4 holes and the match would pretty much remain that way until the 15th where the S & H fightback began.  A halved match would be the result in this one.

3rd match Sam Price and Gabriel would again lose the first 2 holes, but would fight back to take a 1 up lead through 8 holes. In keeping with the theme of the day and in a very topsy turvy match they lose the next 5 holes to be 4 down and eventually lose 5&4.

Our last game was conceded due to only 7 players being available.

So a mountain to climb (no pun intended for those who know the Church Stretton course) in the afternoon singles but the boys would fight hard. The Singles matches ending as follows:

Charlie Rowledge would lose his match 7&6

Alfie Mitchell with fight out a valuable half point.

Jack Hewitson would lose 4&3.

Joey Williams with some great golf would win his match 4&3.

Gabriel Westrope would lose 5&3.

Sam Price secured another half point for Warwickshire.

Charlie England would win his match 2&1.

So not the result Warwickshire were looking for but some positives to take out of the day and all events (punctures and sickness) saw no lasting damage done.  The last match against Derbyshire to come.
