With Simon Taylor on a well deserved holiday in the sun, Richard Lee was stand in manager for this match.
The start of the morning saw the traditional breakfast roll and coffee along with a team chat about the day ahead and pairings for the morning foursomes.
Oliver Clark & Sam Knowles would lead the way. Sam was a little out of sorts early on and this pairing would be 4 down through 5. They would fight all the way and at one point got the score back to just 1 down but would eventually lose out 3&2.
Josh Gardner & Spencer Tanner are a very strong pairing and they were off to a fast start with two birdies on the opening holes. They continued to dominate this match winning 5&4.
Freddy & Joey 1 down through 3 holes but would reach the halfway point all square. They would lose the 10th and 11th however and this proved decisive and they would go on to lose 3&1.
Callum & Alfie would lose the 1st hole but were back to all square by the 5th. They would win the 7th and 8th and fought well to hold this lead to the end to win 2&1.
So 2-2 at the break all to play for after lunch.
Onto the singles,
Josh Gardner leading the way would win his match 2&1.
Sam Knowles who didn’t quite have his A game on the day fought valiantly but lost 6&5.
Spencer Tanner restored the lead for Warwickshire with a 3&2 victory in his match.
Freddy Montgomery win 2&1 to put Warwickshire in a commanding position.
Oliver Clark was very unfortunate to lose on the last hole in his match, his opponent holing a 40 foot downhill to beat him by a single hole.
Callum Lee lost 4&3.
Alfie Mitchell won 2&1.
Joey Williams lost 2&1.
As you can see this was a very tight game with the whole team battling well.
This was the last Under 18s match for 2023 and a sad one as the team lose two of our players who will be too old to play in 2024. Thank you and good luck in the future to Oliver Clark and Sam Knowles.
