Men's 1st Team v Nottinghamshire - Match Report

There is no "I" team but there is "me".

The 4th game of the season took place at Sherwood Forest against a strong looking Notts side. With the course being closed on the Saturday due to the typical British "summer" Sherwood was playing completely different to what we all know. Target golf!

The team taking on Notts:

Seb Cave

Alex Ford

Harrison Long

Rob Bardsley

Darryl Gwilliam

Stu Bloxam

Ian Smith

Finn Stokes

Ryan Gavin

Mike Pell

This season the morning foursomes haven't been too kind to us. Out first to try and change that was Seb and Alex, taking an early 2 up lead they kept their foot on the gas and powered home with a 3&2 win. Trying to get our second point on the board was the Moor Hall pairing, Rob and Harrison. A game that seemed very even for most of the round, from nowhere Rob and Harrison found themselves dormie 2 down. Winning the 17th they forced their opponents down the last but a par from Warwickshire wasn't enough to scrape a half. Third out was Darryl and Mike who never managed to get their noses in front but stuck in there all the way to the last. Fortunately a slack tee shot from Notts meant that a 4 on the last for Warwickshire was good enough to win the hole and claim a half. Fourth out was Finn and Ryan, both making their debut for the 1st team. Nothing like being thrown in at the deep end, they found themselves up against a solid Notts pairing and couldn't quite get the job done, a 2&1 loss but lots of positives to take into the afternoon singles.

Final pairing for Warwickshire was Stu and Ian, playing against a Notts pairing who couldn't miss on the greens. After battling away for 16 holes and witnessing an unfair amount of footage being holed they succumbed to 3&2 loss.

Again, a mountain left to climb in the afternoon but nothing we are not familiar with.

Trying to get us off to fast start was Seb, and that he did. Winning his game 3&2. Following Seb was Harrison who shook hands very soon after with a 4&2 win. This was exactly the start we needed. Behind Harrison was Alex, Rob, Darryl, Ryan and Mike, who between them managed to secure a further 4.5 points putting Warwickshire on the magic 8 with 3 games still out playing. Ian and Stu both losing in the later stages of the game. Finn, who was feeling slightly rough after lunch decided he wanted to see his lunch again..... and again..... and again but despite all of this he fought all the way to the 18th and secured a very impressive half. Warwickshire win 8.5/6.5, thanks to one of the most impressive singles performances by Warwickshire for a long time, only losing 2 games out of the 10. A performance we should be very proud of.

I would like to thank all the players for their determination, resilience and commitment. It was extremely impressive to see us come back after the morning foursomes and take win!

Thanks as ever to Mark and Deb for their continued support, the whole team really appreciates what you guys do every game.
