Warwickshire U14 & U12 Championship Report

Warwickshire U14 and U12 Championships

Wednesday 2nd August – North Warwickshire Golf Club

The 2023 Warwickshire Under 14 and Under 12 Championships saw 21 of Warwickshire’s young guns take on the tricky North Warwickshire Golf Club layout.

The early morning rain cleared away and the odd shower came and went with the weather being remarkably good given the forecast.

In the Under 12 category, William Hardy from Maxstoke Park GC continued with his fantastic season picking up the best nett prize in the age group with a 69.

The runner up in the Under 12s Championship was Isaac Fisher from The Warwickshire GC with a gross score of 95.

The winner of the Under 12 Championship, taking the John Jewsbury Cup for 2023 was Jacob Bell from Kenilworth with a gross score of 90.

In the main Championship, the runner up in the overall net would go to Miles Varney from Rugby Golf Club with a nett score of 68.  The best Nett score of the day with a sizzling 64, would be Arran Taylor from The Warwickshire.

Onto the Under 14s title, in 3rd place overall with a gross score of 80 was Oliver Camargo-Jones from Coventry GC.  Just pipping Oliver to the runner up spot was his teammate from Coventry William Pagett with a superb 79.

The Championship winner, who was on his way to a gross 74 on the day with a one under par first nine holes.  Fantastic golf off the white tees in the conditions.  Our worthy champion for 2023 was Kamraan Arastu from Copt Heath Golf Club.

Instead of the usual putting competition, Jamie Taylor (North Warwickshire’s Professional) kindly agreed to take the field on in a beat the pro putting competition.  A forty foot putt down the length of the putting green.  Each player had two opportunities to try and get their putt closer than his.

We all know how good juniors of this age are at putting so Jamie did a fantastic job limiting the number of losses to just 9.  Each player who successfully beat the pro collected some county logo golf balls.  Special mentions to Oliver Camargo-Jones and Killian Sintorn who beat the pro on both of their two attempts.  Other winners were Kamraan Arastu, Theo Clegg, Logan Sutton, Arran Taylor and Alex Garner.  A huge thank you to Jamie for giving up his time for this and providing such a good defense against some fantastic putters.

Thank you to North Warwickshire Golf Club for their hospitality and allowing us the use of the course and facilities for the day.  Thank you to John Ganley and his greenkeeping team for presenting the course wonderfully for the boys as always.  Thank you to Kim who looked after everyone fantastically as always with great food and lush cakes all round.

Personal thanks to North Warwickshire’s Men’s Captain George Frazer, to the Warwickshire Union’s President Mark Reynolds, to Deb Reynolds and to Steve Jackson for all the help in making the day a success.
