U18 Boys v Worcestershire 15th May at Halesowen GC

The first away match of the season was v Worcestershire was played
at Halesowen Golf Club. A tricky test for an away side that had never
played the course before.
The morning foursome started with Seb and Ollie followed Ryan and
Josh. The first pair were soon involved in a tight match while Ryan
and josh struggled to find their form on an unknown course and
went behind early.
Matches 3,4 and 5 were also underway and all of them were close
and it became apparent that the two teams were well matched.
Match 2 was the first to be decided with the home pair winning
convincingly to earn a point. Match 1 was still close but eventually
Seb and Ollie could not hang on and lost on the 17th
.
The 3 matches left on the course were all nip and tuck but the
Warwickshire boys could not find their form and all three matches
were lost on the last hole. What could have been 3-2 turned into a 5-
0 whitewash in 3 very close matches.
So with the odds stacked firmly against them the boys set out for the
singles with nothing to lose.
Both Seb and Ryan took control early and so did Ollie, after losing the
first 3 and Josh.
Chan also went up early while Sam Knowles was involved in a tough
close match with his opponent. Both Lennon and tom in matches 8
and 9 were up while Alfie Mitchell making his debut found himself
playing an opponent in fine form and was behind early.
At this stage Warwickshire were ahead in 8 of the 10 singles and the
impossible looked possible!
