A WARWICKSHIRE WORLD RECORD?

A young Warwickshire first team player has recently done something probably never achieved before. Eighteen year old George Gill (playing off +2 at The Warwickshire) played a hole twice on the same day in a total of 5 under par!

It was the July first team match at Oswestry against Shropshire and Herefordshire. In the morning foursomes George was paired with seventeen year old Tom Cleaton (+2 handicap at Rugby). They arrived at the 3rd hole, a dog leg 500 yard par 5. Tom drove off and George launched a 240 yard shot with his rescue club on to the green whereupon Tom holed from 30 feet for an eagle 3.

In the afternoon singles George’s huge drive left him only 206 yards from the green whereupon he holed his second shot with a 6 iron for an albatross 2 – five under for the hole on the day!

An albatross is a rare event (apparently statistically 1000 times harder to achieve than a hole in one) but to couple it with an eagle on the same hole on the same day is quite staggering.

And how did his match go in the afternoon? Well after 6 holes George’s opponent was two under par and five down – not happy! He then produced a string of birdies on the back nine but could not prevent the inevitable with George winning on the seventeenth. More important our team won convincingly to stay top of the league. It was quite a day!
