On Saturday 13th May, the 2017 Warwickshire Young Masters took place by the kind permission of Lea Marston Golf Center.

28 boys and girls, all under 12 years old, came to enjoy the first event at Lea Marston Gof Centre. The youngest player was only 7 years old!

The event was split into two competitive groups. One group were the players with a CONGU or junior handicap and the second group were players without handicaps.

The players holding handicaps played a 9 hole competition over the par 30 'Lakes Course' and once they completed the round they took part in a putting competition. The non handicap group played the 9 hole Par 3 course also followed by a putting competition. All the non handicap players were allotted a handicap of 54 (3 shots per hole) for the day.

Each group was supported by an enthusiastic marshall to ensure the young golfers had an experienced guide during play. Six marshalls wee members at Lea Marston under the leadership of Dave Williams, Chairman of competitions at Lea Marston. The full compliment was then made up of ladies from the Warwickshire Ladies Association and 3 parents.

After their round of golf all of the junior golfers had a lot of fun taking part in the putting competion.

After lunch the prize giving took place supported by Bob Harrison, Warwickshire Union President, who delared that the tournament was a great event and it was perfect to encourage new, young players into the game and should be repeated annually.

The whole facility at Lea Marston Golf Centre proved to be ideal for a tournament such as this and I am indebted to the help and support of Head PGA Professional, Darren Lewis, and his team.  The Hotel catering management served lunch and refreshments for the the players and volunteers on the day, which went down very well indeed.

I am also indebted to the skillful support of Elizabeth Earnshaw, who set up the competition on the website and ran the tournament side of the day very professionally.

The day was enjoyed by all of the junior golfers and their parents, and we hope they will share these positive thoughts with all their family and friends who we hope to see at the event next year!
