JUNIOR GIRLS PRIZE PRESENTATION

It was lovely to see so many junior girls together with parents in attendance at the recent gathering.  Having made sure that all paperwork had been completed to update the junior records, it was Claire Barker’s time to capture the interest of everyone with her session on the Rules of Golf.  Claire who is the County’s Handicap and Rules expert had laid out on the floor, a sample golf hole highlighting different areas that could cause problems to golfers – bunkers, white, yellow and red posts, water hazards etc.  Various girls were asked to participate in decision making with many questions coming from golfing parents! – all good fun but very informative - see picture below:

Coaching dates and information was given out by County Junior Organiser, Jane BRENNAN, together with Match and Competition dates advising all where to obtain further information and entry forms on the county website: www.warwickshiregolf.com

In 2016, County Colours were awarded to three girls after 4 County Girls Team appearances with congratulations going to:

Grace WILKINSON- Coventry Hearsall GC

Jessica McGHEE- Rugby GC

Ruby KITCHINGMAN - The Warwickshire G & CC

The Prize Presentation followed with County President, Caroline LASSEN presenting the prizes.

1    Individual Handicap Trophy for the Midlands South Region 2016 - Jessica McGHEE (Rugby GC)

2    Stableford Series Trophy 2016 - Amelia MACHIN (Kenilworth GC)

3    Order of Merit:  In 2016 we had a Warwickshire boys and girls Order of Merit with prizes for both the boys and girls coming from the prize fund (clubs paid £50 to enter).  As this was a new initiative and not all clubs with girls playing golf subscribed to this competition, we have a number of different prizes.

Order of Merit not subscribed: Nett prize - Megan GEE (Maxstoke GC)

Order of Merit subscribed: Nett prize Lauren BEAMAN (Moor Hall)

The winner of the Gross Order of Merit was Maria TOLEDO BAILEY (Walmley GC)  - unfortunately Maria was in Spain practising her golf (no wonder she has done so well recently).  Maria sent her apologies and a short message explaining her absence and highlighting how much she had enjoyed being part of the Warwickshire squad.

4    Most Improved and Most Worthy Golfer of 2016

Jane BRENNAN stated that this one was a tight call with some wonderful handicap reductions in 2016 from many of the girls. Taking the title of the Cup into consideration the Trophy for the Most Improved and Most Worthy goes to Jessica McGHEE (Rugby GC). Jessica cut her handicap from 28 to 18.4 and has made herself available for all the matches and many competitions this year.
