1st WARWICKSHIRE GOLF AWARDS

The inaugural Warwickshire Golf Awards took place at the Belfry Hotel on Friday 18th November in the Woodlands Suite with more than 200 people in attendance from 26 affiliated clubs. This new event which replaced the traditional County Union Dinner was greeted with great enthusiasm from all the Men and Ladies who attended which also included players from all the County teams, both Union and Association.

The Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Geoff Swain whose superb delivery, with the right combination of witty anecdotes and empathy for the nominees, was exactly what was required to assure that the event was both professional and entertaining. The Awards were for Junior Organiser, Greenkeeper, Club Professional, Secretary/Manager and Unsung Hero of the Year and each one was met with cheers and appreciation from the audience. The heartfelt acceptance speeches were moving and informative and received further applause and table thumping! All 15 of the shortlisted nominees are special people and in every case it was a difficult task to select a winner. Everyone nominated should be proud of what they have done and their success shows the esteem in which they are held in at their golf club. We are hoping that next year even more nominations will be received and those who did not win in 2016 will have another chance at taking the title.

A number of County awards were also presented to recognise the talented individuals who represent Warwickshire throughout the year and it was good to see so many proud faces, especially from the youngsters, as they walked on to the stage.

A huge thank you must go to the Belfry and particularly Marc Brooks, Head of Golf and Membership – the food was quite superb as was the service and the setting. Also thanks to G3 Events for the Audio Visual support which turned this into a glamorous and exciting evening. The feedback from the event has been fabulous and it appears that all attending had a thoroughly enjoyable time.

At this point we must thank all sponsors for their support. Without them this new and different Awards night would not have been possible and we hope they enjoyed the evening as much as we did. Details of our sponsors are included below.

We hope that this event will now be an annual occasion and grow to be one of the highlights of the golfing year. Information will shortly be announced for 2017 and nominations will be open during the Summer with notification going out to all our Clubs once again.
