 On Monday 10th October, the Mary Turner Bowl was hosted by Staffordshire at Handsworth Golf Club.  The course had experienced problems with bunkers due to the heavy rain earlier in the year and their bunkers were supposed to be out of play but fortunately the groundstaff did an excellent job and when we arrived in the morning all bunkers were in play.

 

On a beautiful Monday Autumnal morning the course was looking in superb condition.  12 players from each of Staffordshire, Worcestershire & Herfordshire and Warwickshire played in the better ball format.  Warwickshire were represented by Lauren BEAMAN & Carol O'HARE, Lisa BARTON & Helen DELLOW, Rachel RUSTED & Rahela GORDON, Yen PHAM & Margaret SHEEPY, Julia BURTON & Kelly KNIGHT and Annabel EDMUND & Gill SAKER. 

 

All pairings performed well but unfortunately Warwickshire came up short against a very strong Staffordshire (418) who retained the trophy by 9 shots from Worcestershire & Herefordshire (427).   Warwickshire finished 2 shots further back.

 

Best team score for Warwickshire was Annabel & Gill with a 68 followed closely by Yen & Margaret with 69.  The best score of the day was 63 by Worcestershire & Herefordshire team of Alice BROOKS & Di MEAKIN.

 

The 2017 event will be held and Blackwell Golf Club, hosted by Worcestershire & Herefordshire on the same date.
