The Warwickshire Junior Champion Club Qualifier was held on Sunday over the Kings Course at The Warwickshire Golf and Country Club.

Each Club in Warwickshire can submit a mixed team of 3 juniors to play the 18 hole Stableford event off full handicap. The winning team goes forward to compete in the English Junior Champion Club event in 2017 which is to be held at Woodhall Spa during Augusts Golf Week.

The early conditions looked set to be a bright, sunny day with a benign wind. However, during the morning and afternoon the wind did pick up considerably and from an unusual direction. The change of wind changed some short down hill holes into long drags and made some pin positions even tougher on the players, who struggled to keep the ball on the correct tier to ensure a 3 putt stayed off their cards.

The course itself was in great condition and during the presentations the winning team gave their thanks to the greenstaff for this.

The format for this is the best 2 scores 18 hole stableford totals count out of the 3 players, so as all players from each team were spread out across the field it was all up to the last couple of groups to determine who had won.

As soon as the final card was returned it was clear that Robin Hoods total of 67 points was not to be beaten although The Warwickshire followed very closely with a total of 64 and taking second place.

As Robin Hood won the team event one team member at least would be expected to be in the individual prize winners, however both Lewis Hague and Lucas Lawrie from Robin Hood where on the podium scoring points of 34 and 33 respectively taking 1st and second place in the individual. Robin Hoods 3rd player was Harrison Kentish finishing on 17 points.

The Warwickshire's 2nd place team were not far away at all with both counting scores from Jacob Parsons and Max Dargan returning a pair of 32's, and their 3rd player Harry Bromwich returning 25 points.

Very well done to all teams, players and organisers and good luck to Robin Hood in next years national event!

Normally the winning Club does host the event next year, so please watch out for the 2018 qualifier date being played at Robin Hood next Autumn.
