This was our first ‘Trophy’ match of the 2015 season. The Worcs/Herefordshire Vets President, Heather Morgan, had donated a beautiful late Victorian Cranberry glass vase for 2nd team players to contest. At Leamington & County GC, the venue for this encounter it was a dry, cloudy, windy and humid day which saw both teams work hard for their points. Handicaps and half way scores indicated there was little between the teams. Worcs/Here went into a strong lead by winning 3 of the first 4 matches. We fought back with wins from Barbara Jones & Lyn Pillage, Deb Pearman & Liz Woolf and Tina Bates & Sue Butler but a further win for the opposition meant they were in an unassailable position, Warwickshire needed to win the last match of the day to halve the day. With the match still live going down 18 the tension was mounting and evident on the green. Everything hinged on the last 2 putts, Janet Lees & Diane Wood ended all square, Worcs/Here had secured that all important ½ point. Having already beaten Staffordshire earlier in the season, Worcs/Here won the day AND the trophy!
