Warwickshire Seniors v Warwickshire Girls.
Match Report: Sunday 14th April 2024 At Harborne Golf Club.
This was the first match of the season. 4 Ball better ball. 5 Pairs per team.
I think we were all beginning to think we would never get round to playing a match over 18 holes this year with the terrible wet conditions that the country has been experiencing. The first match against the 2nds had been postponed the previous week as they were unable to offer us a guaranteed 18 hole course with the use of trolleys.
Harborne did us proud. It was a full course and trolleys allowed - fortunately for the Seniors, as unlike the girls we didn’t have parents on hand to caddy for us. The girls were delightful and they played some really good golf. So much so the Seniors were beaten by 4 matches to 1.
This was my first match as Captain and my first match against the Girls and I must say, never having played golf as a junior, I felt very envious of the girls ability and success at such an early age.
I did have my Captains hat on and with he help from my partner Suzy Griffiths, managed to get the only win for the Seniors on the day. (Beginners luck maybe?!)
Afterwards Harborne Golf Club not only laid on for us a television with Aston Villa playing , but also some sandwiches and chips. It was really lovely atmosphere with the Girls, Parents and Seniors.
The trophy was presented by The County Lady president Sue Timberlake to some very happy girls!
