The match was played at Penn Golf Club on Monday, 1st May 2019.
The friendly pre-season match against Staffordshire always is a good test for the 2nd Team before the League Matches begin. Emma Leech their Captain was unfortunately unable to play due to illness.
The teams for the morning Foursomes were Annabel Edmond/Lauren Besford, Hilary Dixon/Sharon Butler and Rahela Gordon/Carol O’Hare. The course, for most of the squad was a new experience and having lost all 3 foursomes matches it was a disappointing start. Lauren Besford was making her debut outing for the 2nd Team and played exceptionally well, we had an exciting match against two usually 1st Team players but lost 2&1.
The afternoon singles saw Judith Pegler and Veronique Lintin join us and the departure of Carol and Rahela. Many thanks to Judith who stood in at the last minute. Lauren Besford went out No. 2 against Lynn Grey, a very experienced County Player and held her own, finally losing 4 & 3, but with the handicap difference it was an excellent result.
Veroninque won 5 & 4 and was another outstanding win by our Vice Captain. Hilary also has an excellent win 4 & 3 and made the most of the knowledge leant in the morning foursomes.
A very enjoyable day with a disappointing result of 6-3 to Staffordshire.
